Currently Loving: Vintage Posters

I say currently loving but it has been a long term love affair really.  Lately though, I have been scouring fleamarkets, junk stores and online auctions for the perfect vintage posters for my boys’ room.  I recently bought two very cool oversized 60’s Circus Tour Posters for them and I can’t wait until they arrive. I think it’s the timeless design and the nostalgic aesthetic that make them a perfect stylish, affordable & collectable art option for your home.  Here are some of my favourite in situ x

50’s Pastel Perfection: Kitchen Love

I really love this Kitchen.  Inspired by the 50’s  – it is Pastel Retro meets Industrial Cool.  It makes fantastic use of a limited and awkward space.  The perfect blend of form + function.  Check out the fantastic blogger whom it belongs to at Sukkertoy for Oyet

Inspired by: Florence Broadhurst

This quintessential Queen of fabric & wallpaper is one Australian worth knowing (relax, my fellow Antipodeans, of course I am joking.)  Florence was truly an innovative artist & an amazing inspiration.  Her signature look is so that you can spot a ‘Broadhurst’ in an instance.  Her life & death is as intriguing as her beautiful body of work.  Her colourful life culminated in her own demise in a (still) unsolved brutal murder mystery.  Whether it’s a feature wall in one of her incredible paper coverings or a cushion decorated in a flourish of her fabric – the below clearly demonstrates that the style, flair & legacy of this doyenne of design lives on.

In memory of Florence Broadhurst

Inspired by: The Queens Jubilee

I’m a self confessed royalist.  It all started years ago with the fictional tale of ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’.  Unbeknown to me, upon reading I would fall in love & intrigue with the torrid happenings of historic monarchies and become slightly obsessed with Henry the 8th and his dastardly cronies.  Let’s fast forward 500 odd years from the Tudors to the Windsors.  Her Majesty celebrates 60 years this weekend as reigning Sovereign and in her honour I’ve compiled an interiors story I think depicts the very Best of British.  Now, as a salute to a well deserved 3 day weekend one will pour oneself a stiff Pimms (it’s 5 o’clock somewhere – don’t judge).  Have a fabulous long weekend.  Pip Pip Cheerio x

Lust Have: Mexican Chairs

These iconic 1950′s Acapulco chairs with old Hollywood history ooze retro charm and modern cool.  They offer both effortless form & comfortable function and the versatility continues as their woven plastic & powder coated finishing means they can be used indoors and out.  Perfect for a NZ home.  I have come across two shapes – the most commonly found original shape with peaked tip and a more rounded version.  I’ll have one in every colour por favor.

To buy check out the ‘Collected’ by LeAnn Yare store in Mt Eden in the (09) or have a looksey here http://www.mamasita.co.nz/

Inspired by: Tretchikoff

Having been a long time fan of artist Vladimir Tretchikoff & his kitsch contemporaries I was totally chuffed to find a complete bargain at our local markets recently.

At home my ‘Weeping Rose’ original print takes pride of place in our bedroom and I can be found gazing at it with wistful adoration.

Inspired by this I wanted to see other applications of Tretchikoff, J H Lynch, Shabner et al in modern settings.  I loved what I found.
